Installation hangs: VISTA - Thunderbird

Beitragvon forkys » 1. Mai 2009, 16:38

Dear Forum,

I run VISTA home professional + Thunderbird 2.0 and try installing the software as administrator.
It detects Thunderbird automatically but upon selecting it and hitting 'Next' nothing happens any more. The program doesn't respond anymore- all grayed out.

I cannot find anything on the Vista 'issues' pages about this one.

Apparently Spamihilator is not signed by Microsoft although it doesn't stop it from installing and running perfectly on another laptop with XP Professional & Thunderbird 2.0.

Anybody having any ideas? Perhaps a firewall conflict?

Turning it (Sunbelt personal firewall) of doesn't help either.

It's not the Setup Routine that hangs then, it is the so so called "Configuration Wizard" which tries to adjust the settings within your mail client automatically, it's known to have trouble with thunderbird under certain unknown circumstances.
Simply reinstall and cancel the "Configuration Wizard", after that just do the changes in Thunderbird manually, it's very easy, check the WIKI for help how to do that.
Come back if you still can't get it o work.

Hi Quellcore!

Well I was a bit too quick. After manually editing Thunderbird settings, Spamihilator seems to be working - at least no error messages- however no message comes through. I've tried to use
127.0.0.1 instead of localhost and I did disable Avast + Sunbelt firewall, but so far no score.

Anything else I might be trying?

Hello forkys!

Is Spami working/interacting (moving enevelopes in the tray symbol) :?:
Do you have any mails in Spami's Training Area :?:

Certain Antivirus/Firewall solutions don not what they are supposed to, especially when you try to disable them, there could be still something being blocked without realizing it.
We had several reports, that the Ashampoo Firewall for example still blocks certain traffic even when disabled, so Spami wouldn't work. Uninstalling the firewall was the only way to get it to work.

From what i've researched the Sunbelt Firewall didn't get good results in a firewall shootout.
If you are willing to try uninstall sunbelt and see if that helps.
If it does help consider staying with Spami ( ) and shop for another free firewall solution, although there are not many good ones out there.
In several reviews the Comodo Firewall got pretty good resluts, maybe worth a try for you.

You might want to try to uninstall Avast, too to see if AVAST is the culprit.

I know these steps sound kind of extreme, but if a firewall blocks data even when disabled and without notifying the user, this is also a pretty extreme bahaviour. It might not be the case but it certainly can.

Dear Quellcore,

All fixed. Did something wrong with user/server settings and Sunbelt now also OK.
Thanks
