Problem with italian emails

I have been using Spammihilator for a while but I am experiencing this problem:

a lot of legit email are identified as spam, and a lot of spam is identified as legit email!
example: if I get a mail that starts with a " re:", usually it is identified as spam (that is not!). unless I add someone to my friend list, 99% of the times it goes on the spam bin...
even after marking dozens of times my girlfriend's account and pressing LEARN, her mail kept going to the spam bin. I had to manually add her address to the friend list to avoid this.
how is it possible? the LEARN button seems not to work...

welcome to the Spamihilator user forum!

The problems you describe may result from inappropriate settings, for with optimal settings, Spamihilator would work in italian surroundings, too.

Of course, most of the expressions in the spam-word list used by the Spam-Word Filter are in international language (this is English, still ), so it would work with Italian users properly.

Perhaps you have installed a filter working improperly, or the filter sequence is not useful, or the Learning Filter is polluted by something.

That's why it would be very helpful if you would describe your computer system and your Spamihilator installation for us forum helpers.

I have an HP laptop running XP SP3. The machine has 3Gb of ram and 250GB HD. It's a Centrino Duo.
I didn't touch at all any option of spammihilator. It is running as I installed it.

yes I kept it updated. I have been using spammihilator for months now. Probably since last december.

Hello Suskis!

Could you take a look into the filter reasons, which are listed within the training area?
You can open the training window by click with the right mouse button.
There you can mark an item in the list of filtered mails and read the filtering reason.
One possible reason could be, that your own mail address is put into the friends list.

I always erased all message history both in spamihilator recycle bin and learning area, so I don't have a clue now.
I'll wait for new messages to be falsely recognized as spam and tell you.

today I received several emails. 3 of them where recognized as spam by spamihilator, but only 1 was actually spam.
One was a newsletter, identified by DCC filter as spam at 100% (and it was 100 NOT SPAM).
The other was an online receipt for an item I bought, identified by Image Filter, again as 100% spam.

Your reply was very helpful to me. Now I feel that we will be able to improve your Spamihilator!

Please enter a threashold of 1200 or higher into the dcc-filter settings. This filter recognizes very similar hash values of mails. Real spam will normally have higher distribution than the threashold set by default.

Better deactivate the image filter. This is a very fault-prone filter, because many users do not respect security issues and do use server-hosted images within their regular mails, unfortunately.

today I received 2 emails, both legit, and both went to the spamihilator bin.
this was due to "SPAM WORD FILTER" that indicated a 110% spam and a 140% spam case. Not bat at all for 100% legit mails...

That's bad news for me, because I have tried to improve the Spam-Word Filter recently. Can you tell me, which spam-words have activated the false-positive filtering in this case? You will find this information in the very intelligent training window.

sorry, I moved the email from thrashbin to inbox in order to read them properly. is there a way to have them back in the spammihilator, to check the triggering words?

Thank you for your question. Hmm ... I think you could try to use the Virtual Pop Server which you can download from the plugins section. But this is not absolutely needed, please watch this incident and give me the needed informations the next time a false-positive sieving happened.

ok, today I received 2 false positives. both were reported as 170% probability of being spam!
One was a mail from work and the other was a mail from IKEA customer support.

Can you please tell me where I can find the words that triggered the spamihilator filter?
